Daze, desire and anger -
these were pursued by me constantly everyday.
I went about in myriad ways of undesirable mystic pursuit.
Although I am a big sinner and treacherous,
my Lord, You are my Mother and Father from now on.
The Four Great Vedas
or the Great Scriptures
were never learnt by me.
Lest my remaining days are wasted,
You have to bless me with the True Knowledge (which surpasses 36 fundamental tenets*).
Oh, Eternal Youth, and the lover of red kalAra (hibiscus) flower,
You wear fragrant sandal paste on Your jewels,
You are the supporter of both the PAthAla (Nadir) and the Earth,
You chose West VayalUr as Your abode, rich in water and fish.
Oh VElA, with the Spear, and the Treasure of Virali Mount**,
You are the son of SivA, the Leader of multitudes of bhUthas and ghosts.
Oh Brave One, who destroyed treacherous SUran,
Oh Handsome One, The Lord of all DEvAs and the Great One!
